After I got over the initial shock of the subject line, and realised Teri hadn't got a new job somewhere else - but that it was referring to her promotion at beautiful world - I found myself loving this email I received from LinkedIn the other day, because it picked a selection of people in my network that I mostly know personally and like a lot.

Subject: See Terianne Doubtfire's new job, plus 120 other changes in your network

You don't normally get emails full of friends' faces, do you?  And that's what gave it such impact and made it so engaging.

It's a brllliant reminder about what makes email communications great - engaging visuals, personalisation, clever use of links, social integration, strong call to action and a lightness of touch.  There's barely any copy, but also just enough.

The funny thing is, I don't think I even did anything with it apart from appreciated it - well, apart from saving it and now sharing it(!).  But that means it did its job in a way.  Even looking at it now makes me smile - and that's not to be sniffed at.
